How can we protect our eyes?

Here are some useful tips to preserve our eyes. These tips work at home and at work, so try to follow them to make your peepers last for longer!

Wear protective eyewear!

We can’t stress this enough: wear protective eyewear! Your eyewear must be American National Standards Institute (ANSI) approved and OSHA compliant. Make sure that your special-purpose safety eyewear defends against the hazards found at your workplace. These hazards include particles, blades, welding, chemicals, lasers and fiber optics.

Positon your computer appropriately

If you are working on a desktop computer, place the monitor at an arm’s length away from your face. Adjust your font sizes as necessary. This reduces the impact that blue light has on our eyes.

Follow the 20-20-20 rule

Take a break every 20 minutes by looking at an object 20 feet away for 20 seconds. This helps us relax and helps us blink more often! Blinking actually releases a lubricating fluid that soothes our eyes with moisture.

Cut glare wherever possible!

In a world of digital devices and crystal-clear resolutions, we are being constantly bombarded by strong lights. When using glass screen devices, use a light filter or use a matte filter to reduce glare. This eases our eyes and reduces the danger of strains.

Adjust environmental lighting

When our computer screens are much brighter than the environment we’re in, our eyes experience strain. Adjust the lighting of either your screen or your surroundings to make it easier to see!

Your eyes are a miracle that brings sight. Be sure to keep them safe and to make their jobs as easy as possible. Care for your eyes just as you would for yourself. Both need rest in order to recharge and work hard the next day!
